Our monitoring activity was about the project "Extension of the waterfront of Campomarino" (CB), financed with € 615,626.00 - funds POR FSE FESR Molise 2014-2020. Part of the Municipal Beach Plan of 2014, the project involves the construction of a wooden walkway that will link “Lungomare degli Aviatori” to “Via del Mare”. The aim is to create an accessible path for pedestrians, cyclists and rescue vehicles in order to make this area much safer, especially during the summer, when it reaches a high population density. However, the environmental and landscape restrictions imposed by the Molise Region, as a means to preserve the typical vegetation of that SCI area (site of community importance), have so far impeded the works.

Pitch 2:

This project, as many others in Italy, is affected by the “throughput times”, that is the dead time between one phase and another of ordinary bureaucracy. That is why the construction of the walkway has not started yet, even though it was already planned in 2019. Environmental authorisations are the main cause of the delays in the planning phase. The RUP of the project, Arch. Martino Colucci, interviewed during the monitoring activity, had foreseen that the work would have probably started in the Autumn 2024. Actually, in March 2024, the regional technicians carried out an inspection and they requested further displacement of the construction to the edge of the pine grove, to preserve the habitat of the dunes and the willow acacia.

Pitch 3:

As we usually visit the town of Campomarino, we are firsthand affected by the absence of a path that allows us to reach the southernmost stretch of the promenade in complete safety. That is why, after the experience gained through our civic monitoring activity, our team will always pay attention to the progress of the project implementation. We will try to monitor it by visiting the town and keeping in touch with Mr. Colucci, who has shown a strong availability and collaboration. Furthermore, the social channels used will allow us to maintain a high interest in the local community.
