We are the team Wises and the project that we followed is WEAMS – WIND ENERGY ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, an initiative linked to innovative software solutions for the visualization, analysis and optimization of renewable energy plants. The implementer and beneficiary of the project is the company BaxEnergy Italia S.R.L. The University of Catania supports the project as well. It must also be said that our project relates to the 2030 agenda, and specifically to objective 7, concerning clean and accessible energy. The choice of this project crops up from a strong sense of belonging to our territory. In addition, we decided to monitor WEAMS also because we want to bring a change, or rather we want to control the uncontrollable: the wind is changing!

Throughout our research, we met Simone La Malfa, financial controller at Baxenergy, who enlightened us on the economical aspect of WEAMS. As clarified by La Malfa, the funds shown in the OpenCoesione portal only include the 870.124,50€ coming from the EU, but not the additional 454.991,87€ invested by Baxenergy itself, for a total amount of 1.325.116,37€. Our team questioned what Baxenergy could earn from this situation: Rosario Faraci, Full Professor of Business Administration and Management, previously explained that the software developed by Baxenergy must be public, free and accessible as a result of EU’s law, but we couldn’t find said product. At the end, it turns out that Baxenergy further upgraded the final software, now legally selling it under its new name: “ASSETSTACK”.

Just as our commitment as Wises is beyond the boundaries of a single project, our commitment to monitor future progress must persist even after its final issue. It is essential to consistently monitor and communicate the progresses made by our efforts to keep awareness and engagement within our communities. In order to achieve it, we are committed to maintain an active role on our social media accounts and keep in touch with all WEAMS project contributors through online and in-person meetings. Besides, we will keep a close look on the market where Baxenergy’s software operates, aiming to highlight the numerous benefits citizens will gain from using it.
