The first edition of ASOC Slovenia concluded on a high note, marking a significant achievement in the landscape of ASOC EU's international endeavors. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development of the Slovenian government in close collaboration with the Italian ASOC team and managed by the Slovenian NGO PiNA, has set a new precedent by entrusting the project's management entirely to a non-profit association. PiNA, renowned for its expertise in innovative educational projects, civic engagement, and its status as a EUROPE DIRECT Information Center, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the project. The event's culmination, held in Koper on Friday, May 10, saw the participation of students and teachers from eight Slovenian schools located in Ljubljana, Capodistria, Nova Gorica, Šempeter, Ormož, and Maribor.
The meeting, opened with institutional greetings from the Secretary of State responsible for cohesion policies in Slovenia, Mr Marko Koprivc, and the central ASOC team, present for the occasion, alternated between presentations by the girls and boys, in the form of pitches, of the civic monitoring work conducted during the school year.
At the end of the pitches, the most anticipated moment arrived, with the announcement of the top 3 ranked teams, which turned out to be:
- 1st place: Secondary Vocational and Technical School Bežigrad-Ljubljana
- 2nd place: Technical School Koper
- 3rd place: Gymnasium Ormož
The first-place team won a prize trip to Brussels offered by the Slovenian government in collaboration with the European Commission - DG REGIO, while the second and third-place teams will visit, respectively, the National Institute of Biology in Ljubljana (where they will participate in a dedicated workshop) and Tehnopark in Celje, one of the good practices in Slovenia regarding cohesion-funded projects.
Congratulations, therefore, to the winners, and to all the teams that took part in the first edition of ASOC Slovenia, whose success - thanks to the excellent organization of the Slovenian government and the PiNA association - has opened the doors to a second edition in the 2024-2025 school year!
