The new international pilot initiative ASOC ETC Interreg

11 February 2022

The new international pilot initiative ASOC ETC (European Territorial Cooperation) is officially launched, with the aim to promote civic monitoring among high school students of projects financed by the ETC Programmes better called - Interreg. Therefore, the Italy-Croatia, Italy-France Maritime, Italy-Austria (and, in the definition phase, Italy-Switzerland) cross-border cooperation Programmes are the first to be in the center of attention.

The ASOC ETC initiative is based on the consolidated At the School OpenCohesion model but adds a further element of specificity: in the true spirit of cooperation and partnership, twinning is envisaged between the schools of the participating countries, which will carry out the ASOC didactic path observing the same project selected within each of the aforementioned Interreg Programmes.

It is known that the projects financed by the Interreg Programmes are structured in partnerships composed of beneficiaries of different nature and located in the different territories of the eligible area established by each Programme. Therefore, civic monitoring research will be conducted by the twin schools of the countries involved observing the same project independently selected, but from different points of view: project partners selected in a specific territory, and therefore in relation to the state of implementation and the impact of the project in the chosen area. The results obtained from each of the monitoring activities will be compared with those obtained by the "twinned" team-class.

The European Parliament and the Council have declared 2022 the European Year of Youth and the ASOC ETC initiative contributes directly to it by helping young people to become active and engaged citizens, inspired by a sense of European belonging.

For the ASOC ETC Italy-Croatia initiative, 4 schools were selected for each country, while the ASOC ETC Italy-France Maritime currently involves 3 Italian schools in the reference territories of the related Interreg Programme.

The initiative was launched by the introductory webinar Italy-France Maritime held last 8th February, in which the teachers of the schools involved and the experts of the Managing Authority of the Interreg Italy-France Maritime 2014-2020 Programme took part, and by the webinar Italy-Croatia held on 11th February, that saw the greetings of the Minister for Regional Development and EU Funds - Nataša Tramišak, the head of the Managing Authority of the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2014-2020 Programme - Flavia Zuccon, the contact persons of the Department for Cohesion Policy, the representatives of the ASOC Croatia team at the Ministry for Regional Development and European Funds, the experts of the Joint Secretariat Italy-Croatia, and the Italian and Croatian teachers of the selected schools

Educational activities with teachers and students will start next week, with webinars dedicated to the first lesson of the ASOC ETC path.

ASOC ETC is organized as part of the OpenCoesione-ASOC initiative - Department for Cohesion Policy, and is supported by the Italian Agency for Territorial Cohesion and the INTERACT Programme (Valencia Office). The Monitoring Committees composed of the National Authorities of the Member States Italy-France and Italy-Croatia approved the respective ASOC CTE Italy-France Maritime supported by the Tuscany Region in the role of the Managing Authority and ASOC ETC Italy-Croatia supported by the Veneto Region in the role of the Managing Authority.
