Open Data, Civic Monitoring,

Cohesion Policy for the high-school students

Talk about your research

The right place for Gen Z

Hi everyone!

We are the Bloggers and the Storytellers in this blog we are going to tell you the story of our project. During this adventure we won't be alone.

Our team

Our team includes the members of two classes, 3^M and 4^A of High School G. De Bottis, located in Torre del Greco (Southern Italy). The school has been involved in projects about global citizenship and Agenda 2030 goals for some years.

Our research

We'd never heard the word "ASOC" before and the application for this school project made us very curious to learn more about civic monitoring and cohesion policy. Thus, as our Head of Research suggested, we started exploring PRIMARY DATA, in group work, on the portal https://opencoesione.gov.it/en/ searching the projects aiming at territory requalification , financed by EU funds, in Campania and in the area of our town. So, we could not believe our eyes when we realized that about 1083 structures, very famous archaeological sites as well , were supported by European resources! Then, we kept on surfing the Internet and we found out a video from ASOC stories on YouTube that gave us a strong input to join the project:

Our choice

Finally, after comparing the results of each group, we chose to monitorate "La Stecca", a local institution working as business incubator, in order to check its impact on the area. Our Analyst and Coder discovered by accessing the website https://www.comune.torredelgreco.na.it/ that the huge industrial building , had been used in the past as a corn mill, but it has undergone functional changes since 1945 until today. The architectural REQUALIFICATION of the structure dates back to 2013, when the Municipality of Torre del Greco (Beneficiary and Executor) decided to restore it with a new “clothing” and a different role. Accessing the OPEN DATA we learned they received funds from the European Regional Development Fund, for the programming period 2007-13, to improve social and work qualities. The project was completed in 2015, all payments monitored. Together with the Storyteller, we entitled our project " The right place for Gen. Z". Our Designer drew in the team logo the mill that stands not only for a symbol of REBIRTH, but also of CULTURAL HERITAGE, linked to the name of our city(Torre del Greco, "Torre" means tower ), so as for the coral branch, whose manufacturing made our town very famous all around the world. Our Social Media manager opened the google account and the other social platforms , Instagram,Twitter, Facebook, by using the name of “old and young mills” to underline the transition from the past to the present, emphasizing the importance of the “roots” in the Gen Z. In progress, lots of photos have been done to witness our research in team, starting from the ASOC WALL as first step.

Students’aim

We realized that we have been very lucky, because this experience will provide us with a lot of new soft skills and crosscurricular competences. Furthermore, we want to learn both our territory better, to be part of our society and to become more responsible-active-aware citizens, improving our sense of Legality and fighting for the respect of all human rights. In all, we are really excited to discover the new social, cultural services at "La Stecca" and to cooperate during this adventure. Don't forget that: "Cohesion makes stronger!"

The final aim

of our project It aims at monitoring the EFFICACY and EFFICIENCY of "La Stecca" in the local area by favouring youth enterpreuners to start up. It could help whoever wants, to get information or get trained for a new business plan, to arrange events, meetings, last but not least, to booster social inclusion.
