The Oscar project aims to transform cigarette butts into eyeglass frames, addressing waste management and sustainability issues.Developed by the Essequadro group in collaboration with CeRICT and funded with €409,266.90 from the POR FESR Campania 2014/2020 funds, this initiative aligns with the Agenda 2030, focusing on recycling and the circular economy to promote environmental sustainability. The analysis conducted, based on data primarily provided by Istat and Legambiente, has highlighted the urgency of addressing the issue of cigarette butts, harmful and hazardous waste for the environment. The primary objective of the project is to demonstrate that it is possible to transform such waste into useful resources, promoting an alternative view of the concept of waste as potential raw material.

Pitch 2:

Through interviews and research, the key role of the project in waste reduction and active community involvement has emerged. Interviews also highlighted the economic opportunities generated not only for the local area but also for other sectors. One of the most significant findings was the innovative process of transforming cigarette butts into eyeglass frames, with a positive environmental impact and a clear focus on promoting sustainability, thus contributing to a broader and more inclusive vision of the project. Overall, the Oscar Project represents a promising solution to address environmental challenges while stimulating economic growth and fostering social inclusion, demonstrating the transformative potential of sustainable initiatives.

Pitch 3:

To continue following Essequadro's project, the Smoking Glasses team proposes to focus on raising awareness about recycling cigarette butts. This will involve targeted campaigns and partnerships with research institutes and environmental organizations to closely engage young people and local residents on these issues. To promote sustainability, we aim to involve the community in creative contests to develop eco-friendly solutions. We also propose expanding a continuous monitoring system, involving communities and assessing social and environmental impacts. Finally, we will ensure regular communication through online and offline channels, involving stakeholders and highlighting project progress and evolution.
