When we were asked to join the ASOC 2022-2023 project, we chose to monitor the project "Energy efficiency improvement works in the Lentini hospital", which aim is to improve the energetic efficiency of the hospital. The project has allowed us to broaden our knowledge about the services available in our area, which are usually not fully exploited. Following the searches carried out in loco and online, we were able to obtain the essential informations for our research and for the achievement of our goal: to understand the actual potential of the structure and the aftermath that the project can have on the social-environmental sphere.
For these interventions, the Italian law provides for tax incentives: wind, solar and hydroelectric energy have advantages over non-renewable sources, including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and greater energy security. To improve the infrastructure and renewable energy of the system, investments are made in smart grid technology: this guarantees renewable energy even in the event of fluctuations in production. For a national resonance, the aim is to monitor the project followed by the collection of data from different sources. Following a survey of pupils in our school on awareness of energy saving, most embrace the topic we deal with, while others do not know about funds allocated by the EU.
The project is not completed yet: from the meeting with the Health director Micale and the engineer Breci, project manager, the possibility emerged of contributing to the energy efficiency process through the use of renewable energies in our small action centre: among the possible options that can be taken into consideration we find the implementation of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels. We would like to promote initiatives involving young people, not only from our area, and at the same time, we would like to stimulate the local administration to complete what has been undertaken.
