Our Project aims to let citizens know more about the River Salso which is an important element of our territory. That's why we have been monitoring Open coesione Project "Works for eliminating the obstruction of River Salso's mouth" . The research will make citizens be more aware of public and European funds. Knowing the river conditions and its ecosystem can bring many advantages such as opportunities for tourism, watersports & fishing. Last but not least the river safety could improve everyone's quality of life. At the beginning we thought that It is possible to disobstruct definitely a river's mouh but by interviews to administrators and to the responsible of civil engineering we found out that we were completely wrong because periodic works must be done.
The most interesting moments were the site inspections at the mouth of the river led by the Director of the Environment Office, Tonino Napoli, where we could realize what the real conditions of the river are. Another significant step was the meeting with Engineer/Architect Salvatore La Mendola who explained us that the maintenance works on the river must be constant due to the streams of the river and the sea.. We also interviewed past administrators and an outstanding member of the WWF association.
From now on, since we have known better the river, we will be more careful. Certainly we will read all the articles about the river conditions. When possible, we will bring out an exhibition, already done in our school, to let other people know, respect and love this wonderful natural resource. We have learnt a lot, creating a survey to test how much people of our area know about the river, but they should know more. By interviews to former administrators, who told us about interesting projects around the Salso, we learnt that it would be possible to enhance touristic activities in Licata near the river banks.. We hope we will be able to be changemakers and stimulate the current administration to do something.
