Overcoming poverty is not an act of charity, it is an act of justice - Nelson Mandela

Overcoming poverty is not an act of charity, it is an act of justice - Nelson Mandela

The members of Invisibles believe in Nelson Mandela’s words: “Overcoming poverty is not an act of charity, it is an act of justice”, because of that we decided to carry on this project, hoping to give a home to all those who need it, not because of charity but because everyone is entitled of a roof over their head to live a dignified life.

Our project, as we said in the previous article, is about the renovation of old housing in Padua and giving charity to people they need, just like a roof under which to live, and is called  "Restructuring to create mini housing in Padua".

The objectives of the project are precisely to defeat poverty, as written in the 1° goal of the 2030 Agenda, and to achieve the 11° goal which is to try as much as possible to make cities and communities more sustainable, in fact in 2020 more than 2 million families are in a condition of absolute poverty, as well as another 5.6 million individuals.

As regards the problems of sustainability, over 8 million Italians live in houses with structural and humidity problems and almost 7 million own houses with noise pollution problems.

Our project offers work for the construction of 9 mini-lodgings of 40 square meters each to be used for emergency housing.

The structures we have chosen, or rather these small huts, will raise € 940000 of investment, which is made possible thanks to European and regional funds (Por-Fers); to bring the work to a successful conclusion it will take more or less a few years or less (we hope) in order to plan the constructions and organize themselves with the roles that everyone must perform, trying to respect the deadlines and trying to get all those who participate to collaborate to contribute a “happy ending” to people in need.

You will ask yourself...why did we choose this project? Well, simple! Because, according to Caritas of Padua, the people who are demanding for this are: families with children (43%), people living alone (20%), people living alone with children (13,8%) and young people aged 18 to 34 (8%); absolute poverty is also high in families with 3 or more children (20,9%), families with 4 members (from 17,1%) and with 5 or more membres (from 30,9% to 30,2%).

Well, we members of the Invisibles hope that everything goes well and that these needy families one day, sooner or later (hopefully sooner) can have a better life protected by the home.
